Question 743449: The income from a student production was $15750. if the price of a student ticket was $2 and the price of a non student ticket was $5 each and a total of 6000 tickets were sold, how many tickets of each kind were sold?
I tried using the substitution method to figure it out the final equation did not add up to the equations I used.
x+y=6000
2x+5y=15750
In the end I got
X=750
Y=5250

When you check this, you can see that Y>3150 can't be as it exceeds 15750.
2X + 5Y = 15750 , but let's multiply the first equation by -2 on both sides;
-2X -2Y = -12000. And add :
0 + 3Y = 3750

Y = 1250, and X = 4750
2X = 9500
5Y = 6250
Total 15750
