Question 697758: I need help with solving systems of equations by elimination.
-6x+6y=6
-6x+3y=-12
how do I solve it ?
Answer by Simnepi(216) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
you have to get rid of one of the unknowns by adding or subtracting the equations.
since the signs of the two equal unknowns are the Same .... Subtract the equations. (If the signs were Different ... aDd the equations)
Subtracting left hand and right hand sides gives
-6x+6y-(-6x+3y) = 6-(-12) removing brackets and simplifying
3y = 18
y = 6
substitute this value into either of the equations
-6x+36 = 6
-6x = -30
x = 5
