Question 687769: Solve by THE Elimination method 5u+ 2v=-18 3u+v=-7
Answer by ReadingBoosters(3246) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Multiply the second equation by -2 and add to the first
5u + 2v = -18
-2(3u+v=-7) yields -6u - 2v = 14
so
5u + -6u + 2v + -2v = -18 + 14
-u = -4
u = 4
...
Multiply the first equation by 3 and the second equation by -5
3(5u+2v=-18) yields 15u + 6v = -54
-5(3u+v=-7) yields -15u + -5v = 35
add them together
15u + -15u + 6v + -5v = -54 + 35
v = -19
...
Solutions
u = 4, v = -19
