( 3,7) AND (1,2) WITH A LINE AND THEN CONNECT (1,2) AND (0,3). WHAT APPERAS TO BE TRUE ABOUT THESE TO LINES ? FIND THE SLOPE OF EACH LINE . WHAT IS TRUE ABOUT THE SLOPES?
y2-y1)/(x2-x1) [The formula for the slope of a line]
m=(2-7)/1-3)=-5/-2=5/2[Plug-in the values]
y=mx+b [Use the slope-intercept form of a line]
2=(5/2)(1)+b [Plug-in the values and solve for b]
2=5/2+b
2-5/2=b
-1/2=b [Plug back into the equation]
y=(5/2)x-1/2
.
Find the slope and slope-intercept form of the second set of points.
m=(3-2)/(0-1)=1/-1=-1
y=mx+b
3=(-1)(0)+b
3=b
y=-x+3
.
The lines intersect at (1, 2)
The slopes are not parallel nor perpendicular.
