Question 599790: The formula F=(5/9)C+32 can be used to convert temperature in degrees Celsius, C, to degrees Fahrenheit, F. What formula gives the conversion from degrees Fahrenheit to degrees Celsius?
A. C=F-32-(5/9)
B. C=(5/9)(F-32)
C. C=(9/5)(F+32)
D. C=(9/5)(F-32)

Answer by Intelmnd(1)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
We begin by moving everything from around C in our equation using the Order of Operations and we com to our answer! Remember whatever you do to one side you must do to the other.
F=(5/9)C+32
(Subtracting 32 from both sides will leave(5/9)C + 0, therefore we can remove it from the right side)
F-32=(5/9)C
(The fraction 5/9 is canceled on the right side of the equation when we divide it from both sides. It leaves our C all alone)
Lastly,we simplify our remaining equation on the left side of the problem. Remember that when dividing fractions we can simplify by multiplying the numerator by the recipercal of the denominator fraction. In our case (5/9) would flip to give us (9/5). That would leave us with:
or

If we have solved our equation correctly we have solved for C and have found a match with answer choice D!

Let's check our answer:

We shall convert 32°F to °C using our equation and then plug in our numbers into the orignal equation to see if we come up with the same answer.

C=0*(9/5)
C=(0*9)/(0*5)
C= 0/0
C= 0°

Original equation plug in: 0°C
F=(5/9)0+32
F=(0*5/0*9)+32
F=(0/0)+32
F=0+32
F=32°

It seems we have arrived at our original number!! We have done it!!
