The equation for a straight line is Y=mX+b where m is the sloap and b is the Y intercept.
For the equation Y=-X+5
m=-1 and b=5
The equation for a line parallel would be Y=-X+b
no matter what value b is, the line will have the same sloap and still be parallel.
The equation for a line perpendicular would be Y=X+b
The sloap is now positive and therefor perpendicular to the original line.
