Question 561134: 3x-11=y
x-3y=9

Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
3 x -1 y = 11 .............1
1 x -3 y = 9 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by -3
Multiply (2) by 1
-9 x 3 y = -33
1 x -3 y = 9
Add the two equations
-8 x = -24
/ -8
x = 3
plug value of x in (1)
3 x + -1 y = 11
9 + -1 y = 11
-1 y = 11
-1 y = 2
y = -2
