Question 444577: i paid 17.70 for 12 calamansi and 14 guavas. at the same price my sister paid 21.60 for 6 calamansi amd 24 guavas.find the cost of each?:(
Answer by oberobic(2304)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
c = price of each calamansi
g = price of each guava
.
12c + 14g = 17.70
6c + 24g = 21.60
.
Multiply the 2nd equation by 2
Then subtract
12c + 14g = 17.70
12c + 48g = 43.20
0c -34g = -25.50
g = .75
Each guava costs 75 cents.
.
Substituting into the first equation...
12c + 14(.75) = 17.70
12c + 10.5 = 17.70
12c = 17.70 - 10.5
12c = 7.20
c = .6
Each calamansi costs 60 cents.
.
Always check your work!
6(.60) + 24(.75) = 21.6 ??
3.6 + 18 = 21.6
Yes.
12(.6) + 14(.75) = 17.70 ??
7.2 + 10.5 = 17.7
Yes.
.
Answer: Each calamansi cost 60 cents and each guava cost 75 cents, or each calamansi cost $0.60 and each guava cost $0.75.
.
Done.
