Question 413567: Hello this is my problem, I am a student in algebra 1, Introductory and Intermidiate algebra.
Find an equationof the line containing the point (6,9) 9x+y=8
I have to find slope first, which I am confused about finding for this problem. So y=-9x+8 slope is 1/9 i got help with that and I do not get it.
y-y1=m(x-x1)
y-9=1/9(x-6)
y-9=1/9x-54+9
y=1/9x+63 I already know this is not correct but I cannot figure out these types of problems. Please help thank you so much!

If y = -9x + 8, the slope is -9, not 1/9. I don't know how the point (6,9) and the equation 9x + y = 8 are related. Are you supposed to find the equation of the line that is parallel to the given line and meets at the point, or one that is perpendicular to the line?

Find an equation of the line containing the point (6,9)

 y = -9x + 8         | Yes same as 9x+y=8 

"If" the new line is to be 'perpendicular' to the above..then Yes, its slope = 1/9

New Line:

y-9=1/9(x-6)         | Yes.   

y =1/9(x-6) + 9

y = 1/9(x) - 6/9 + 9

y= (1/9)x + 75/9    OR x-9y = -75
