y=-3x + 1

The first equation y = 2x - 4, therefore you can substitute y with 2x-4 for y in the 2nd equation
2x - 4 = -3x + 1
Add 3x to both sides
2x + 3x - 4 = 1
Add 4 to both sides
2x + 3x = 1 + 4
