Four oranges and five apples cost $3.56. Three oranges and four apples cost $2.76. Find the cost of an orange and the cost of an apple.
Let number of oranges be x
And number of apples be y
4x+5y= 3.56 ----------------------1
3x+4y=2.76-------------------------2
Multiply eq 1 by 3 and eq 2 by 4
12x+15y= 10.68
12x + 16y= 11.04
Subtract
-y= - 0.36
Y=0.36
X= 0.44 give answer in appropriate units

Four oranges and five apples cost $3.56. Three oranges and four apples cost $2.76. Find the cost of an orange and the cost of an apple.
its just like any other algebraic equation
o=oranges and a=apples
4o+5a=3.56
3o+4a=2.76
pic an equation and solve for that letter in my case im choosing 1st one and salving for "o"
4o+5a=3.56
4o=3.56-5a
o=(3.56-5a)/4 plug this "o" into the second equation
3o+4a=2.76
3((3.56-5a)/4)+4a=2.76 get rid of fraction by multiplying by 4
3(3.56-5a)+16a=11.04
10.68-15a+16a=11.04
10.68+a=11.04
a=0.36
Use the value of "a" and replace it in the value of "o" equation
o=(3.56-5a)/4
o=(3.56-5(0.36))/4
o=(3.56-1.8)/4
o=1.76/4
o=0.44
so oranges cost 44 cents each and apples cost 36 cents each
