Question 261411: What is the answer of
2x= y-1
y = 3x
Solve using the substitution, please show each step. I am having trouble understanding each individual steps.

Answer by roseo(33)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You have 2x = y-1 and y = 3x. Because the second one is solved for y we can use that to do our substitution.
2x = y - 1
2x = 3x - 1
-3x=-3x
___________
-x = -1
x = 1
Then substituting back in we have y = 3x so y = 3(1) or y = 3
The solution would be the point (1,3) or x = 1 and y = 3
