I need to find the values for X and Y in the following problem
(2/X)+(3/2Y)=(11/4)
(5/2X)-(2/Y)=(2/3)
--------------
Let 1/x = a ; Let 1/y = b
------------------
Rewrite the equations:
2a + (3/2)b = 11/4
(5/2)a - 2b = 2/3
-------------------------
Multiply thru 1st by 4 and 2nd by 6 to get:
8a + 6b = 11
15a - 12b = 4
-----------------------
Multiply thru 1st by 2 to get:
16a + 12b = 22
15a - 12b = 4
---------------------
Add and solve for "a"
31a = 26
a = 26/31
-------------------------------
Substitute into 8a+6b=11 and solve for "b"
8(26/31) + 6b = 11
(208/31) + 6b = 11
6b = 133/31
b = 133/186
-------------------
Convert back to x and y
x = 1/a = 31/26
y = 1/b = 186/133
