Plain pastries were 35 cents each and fruit-filled pastries were 45 cents each. She sold 500 pastries total. How many plain pastries did she sell if she earned $205.50? Quantity Equation: p + f = 500
Value Equation:::35p+45f = 20550 cents
--------------------------------------------------
Modify the equation to solve for "p":
45p + 45f = 45*500
35p + 45f = 20550
------------------------
Subtract the 2nd equation from the 1st to get:
10p = 1950
p = 195 (# of plain pastries she sold)
