Question 177792: Can you help me solve this problem {{n/n-3 + n = 7n-18/n-3}}?
I know that you will need to use n-3 as a common denominator, but once i have done that i come out with {{n+n^2-3n=7n-18}}. On my teachers answer sheet it says the answer is suppose to be 6 but how is that possible?
Answer by MathTherapy(10552) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x LCD (n – 3)
n + n(n – 3) = 7n - 18
(n – 6)(n – 3) = 0
n = 6 or 3
Since n = 3 makes the two fractions undefined, this value cannot be used, so the only answer is n = 6.
