We are given the fact that y=x+3, that means we can replace the variable y on the first equation with (x+3)
2x+2(x+3)=14
Multipling the expression by 2 we get:
2x+2x+6=14
Group by equal terms, remembering to change the sign of operation if we move a term across the equal sign:
2x+2x=14-6
Add and subtract=
4x=8
We divide all by 4 to get a single x
x=2
To get the y value, we replace the value of x in y=x+3
y=2+3
Y=5
Solution:
X=2 and Y=5
We can verify our answer by replacing the value of each variable on the first equation:
2x+2y=14
2(2)+ 2(5)=14
4+10=14
14=14
