: Solve the problem. Ron and Kathy are ticket-sellers at their class play, Ron handling student tickets that sell for $2.00 each and Kathy selling adult tickets for $5.50 each. If their total income for 30 tickets was $105.50, how many did Ron sell? This question is from textbook Introductory Algebra

Answer by Mathtut(3670)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
lets call rons tickets(student tickets) s and lets call kathy's tickets(adult tickets) a.
:
s+a=30.............eq 1--->a=30-s
2s+5.50a=105.50....eq 2
:
take a's value in eq 1 and plug it into eq 2
:
2s+5.50(30-s)=105.50
:
2s-165-5.5s=105.50
:
3.5s=59.5
:
amount of tickets Ron sold
