-10+4(3p+10)=18
Answer by nerdybill(7384) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The idea, of course, is to isolate the unknown to one side of the equation.
.
-10+4(3p+10)=18
Start by distributing the 4 to each term inside the parenthesis:
-10+12p+40=18
Combine like-terms on the left:
12p+30=18
Subtract 30 from both sides:
12p = -12
Dividing both sides by 12:
p = -1
.
to check, plug it back in:
-10+4(3p+10)=18
-10+4(3(-1)+10)=18
-10+4((-3)+10)=18
-10+4(7)=18
-10+28=18
18 = 18 (checks)
