Fred and Nancy play a round of golf together. Their combined score is 223. Freds Score was 3 more than Nancys and Tigers score was 7 more than freds. What was each persons score.
Now I know I have to ma make 3 equations, but im still lost.

Write an equation for each statement:

F + N + T = 223
:
" Fred's Score was 3 more than Nancy's"
F = N + 3
rearrange equation to get N in terms of F
N = F - 3
:
"Tiger's score was 7 more than freds."
T = F + 7
:
Refer to the 2nd & 3rd equations, substitute (F-3) for N, and (F+7) for T in the 1st equation:
F + N + T = 223
F + (F-3) + (F+7) = 223
3F + 4 = 223 - 4
F =
F = 73 is Fred's score (makes more sense now)

Find N
N = 73 - 3
N = 70 is Nancy's score
Find T:
T = 73 + 7
T = 80 is Tiger's score

Check solutions, find the the total
73 + 70 + 80 = 223
