Question 13946: I am trying to help my nephew figure out how to solve an equation 3(x+2)=4(5+x) I tried another web site and the answer I was given is 14, but how is this figured out? HELP.....Answer by Earlsdon(6294)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website! Use the "distributive property" to simplify both sides. Subtract 3x from both sides. Now subtract 20 from both sides. Answer: x = -14 Please note that it is negative 14, not positive 14.
