I have tried this question I take
8x+10y=46…………(1)
10x+5y=36…………(2)
(2)×2 gives 20x+10y=70
(3)-1 gives 12x=24;x=2.How is second equation can multiply with 2?
I got y=3 ..How to get the answer step by step?Is my answer is right?

y-cost of 1 kg of onions
The cost of 8 kg of onions is rs-46.

:
8/46 = 1 / x
:
cross multiply the fractions
:
8x = 46
:
x = 5.75
:

let y be cost of 1kg of potatoes, then
:
10y + 5(5.75) = 35
:
10y + 28.75 = 35
:
10y = 6.25
:
y = 0.625rs per kg
