Height is a 1 dimensional measure while area is a 2 dimensional measure.
Think of your shoe.
You have a shoe size which is a measure of the length of your foot but your footprint includes not only the length but also the width. So your footprint would be a measure of area while the shoe size would be a measure of length.

Height is how tall a person is.
