Question 886618: Ilene was building a flower garden whose perimeter could not exceed 40 feet. She wanted the length and width of the garden to be in the ration 2:3. What was the maximum possible area of the garden.
Answer by JulietG(1812) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Perimeter = 2 length + 2 width
40 = 2L + 2W
20 = L + W
The maximum values for L and W combined cannot exceed 20.
2:3 = 5
20/5 = 4
2*4:3*4
8:12 <<--maximum dimensions of garden
Maximum possible area, then, is 8 * 12 =
