Each rectangle is 8 sq inches and make two triangles.
Each cookie will be 4 sq inches.
72 cookies = 36 rectangles = 36*8 sq inches = 288 sq in.
288/48 = 6 cans of icing.

Since the area of a triangle is always half of the area of a rectangle with the same base and height, each cookie will have an area of
So each cookie will have an area of 4 sq inches. So the total area is
Total area=72*4=288
So all the cookies combined make an area of 288 sq in. Now simply divide 288 by 48 to find out how many cans she'll need:
So she'll need 6 cans to ice every cookie
