Question 725549: The radius of a can soup is 2 in. and the height is 7 in. If the radius of the can is cut in half and the height is doubled, what effect will this have on the amount of soup in the can?

Assuming the soup can takes on a cylindrical form:
Original volume = pi*r^2*h = pi*(2 in)^2 * 7 in = 28pi in^3
New volume after radius is cut in half and height is doubled
= pi*(1 in)^2 * 14 in = 14pi in^3
Notice that the new volume is 1/2 the original volume.
