Question 479041: This is the problem:
Determine (a) the area and (b) the circumference of the circle. Use the π key on your calculator and round your answer to the nearest hundredth.
This was the answer I submitted:
r = 13mm

A = r^2 * (π)
(π) = 3.14
A = (13mm)^2 * (3.14)
A = (169mm^2) * (3.14)
A = 530.66mm^2
C = 2r (π)
C = 2 * (13mm) * (3.14)
C = (26mm) * (3.14)
C = 81.64mm
My teacher said this:
What is the area and the volume with respect to pi?
Note that "with respect to pi means you leave the answer with respect to pi", so you don't multiply by 3.14 but carry the pi.
Is she saying that it's INCORRECT? If so, where is it wrong in the steps?

Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
she has specifically asked you to multiply by pi
pi on the calculator has a value of 3.14159265
169*3.14=530.66
BUT
169*pi=530.929 (round off to 100 th.
530.93
