Tennis balls are packaged three to a cylindrical can. If the diameter of a tennis ball is 2 1/2 inches, find the volume of the can.
---
The height of the can is 3*diameter of a ball = 3*(5/2) = 15/2 inches
-----
Diameter of the base = diameter of a ball = 5/2 inches.
-----
Volume = Area of base*height
Vol = (pi)*(5/4)^2*(5/2)
---
Vol = 3.906(pi) cu. in.
---
Vol = 12.2718 cu. in.

First, find the volume of a tennis ball.
If 3 are packed into a cylinder, like the cans tennis balls are sold in, the volume would be 3 times the volume of a ball,
... that's the volume of the 3 balls....
To put them into a cylinder, the cylinder would have in inside diameter of 2.5 inches (or radius 1.2in), and it would be 3 times the diameter of a ball, or 7.5 inches.
For a cylinder,
