What is the formula to calculate the surface area in m² for a 
length of pipe. I have the diameter in inches and length in metres.

First you must convert the inches to meters by multiplying by .0254

The surface area then is given by this formula

A = Circumference of a cross section × length

A = p×D×L

where D = diameter, L = length
