Question 319080: In the xy-plane, a square is drawn with one vertex at the origin and antoher at the point (5,5). What is the maximum possible area of such a square? I thought the obvious answer was 25, but my answer key says that the answer is 50. How is that answer right?

You're assuming that the diagonal of the square runs from (0,0) to (5,5) (like in the black square).
What if the line from (0,0) to (5,5) is the side of the square (like in the blue square)?
