Question 293936: Jessica is decorating a section of one wall of her kitchen with ceramic tiles. The area shi is decorating is represented by the shaded area in the diagram below. She is using 3 inch square tiles. The tiles are sold in boxes of 100.
Outside dimensions are 2.5 by 6 feet
Inside box is 2 ft by 1.5 feet
How many boxes of tiles will Jessica need to cover that section of wall?
Answer by checkley77(12844) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2.5*6-2*1.5=15-3=12 ft^2 is the area to be tiled.
12*144=1,728 in^2 is the area tobe tiled.
3 by 3=9 in^2 is the area of each tile.
1,728/9=192 tiles are required.
Thus 2 boxes of 100 tiles (200 tiles) will be needed.
