What happens to the surface area of a sphere when the radius is halved?
-------------------
Area = 4*pi*r^2
(r/2)^2 = r/4, so the Area is 1/4.
---------------------
To put it more generally, the Area is proportional to the square of the radius. A change in the radius causes the Area to change by the square of the ratio.
