2.5 m wide. Find the dimensions of the pool if the area of the deck is 265m2
:
Let x = the width of the pool
and
3x = the length of the pool
then
3x^2 = area of the pool
:
if the pool is surrounded by a 2.5 m wide deck, the overall dimensions would be:
(x+5) by (3x+5)
FOIL this to get the overall area
3x^2 + 20x + 25 = overall area
:
Overall area - pool area = 265
3x^2 + 20x + 25 - 3x^2 = 265
combine like terms, 3x^2's cancel out
20x = 265 - 25
20x = 240
x = 240/20
x = 12 m is the width
then
3*12 = 36 m is the length

(36+5) * (12+5) = (36*12) =
