You first must determine the circumference of the circle formed by the top and bottom of the cylinder. That is easy enough as you are given the radius to be 3cm.
The circumference of a circle is 2∙∏∙r , where ∏ = Pi
Since you are given the radius to be 3 cm, then the circumference of the circle is 6∏ cm.
Now picture “unwrapping” the cylinder. You can see that the circumference of the circle is the width of the rectangle of the area you need to measure. You are given the height (5 cm), so all you have to do is multiply the width by the height to get your answer:
5cm X 6∏cm = 30 ∏ square centimeters, and that is your answer!
