Re-read your post. Keep re-reading it until you figure out what essential piece of information you failed to share.
If the shaded region happens to be the portion of the large circle that is outside of the small circle, then calculate the area of the large circle which has a radius of 8, and then calculate the area of the small circle which has a radius of half its diameter. Then subtract the area of the small circle from the area of the large circle.
