Question 1114103: Here is the question I need help with. I know I have all the parts of the questions on here but I got most of them. I was unsure of how to answer part E and part F. I have my answers written for the rest of the questions incase that helps. Thank you so much in advance!
You are going camping with your family for a family reunion. You need to know how many sleeping bags will fit inside the tent you will be using. The floor of the tent is a trapezoid with bases of 10 ft. and 28 ft. The distance between the bases is 12 ft. and the legs of the trapezoidal floor are 15 ft. For the camping trip you will all be using sleeping bags that are 6.7 ft. by 2.3 ft.
a. Calculate the area of the floor of the tent using area formulas for rectangles and triangles.
Answer: For rectangles, I got 336 using the longer length, using the smaller length I got 120. For triangles, I got an area of 168.
b. Calculate the area of the floor using the formula for a trapezoid.
Answer: A=1/2h(base 1 + base 2), answer: 228
c. What did you discover about the two methods of calculating the area of the floor?
Answer: For the rectangles, I noticed the actual area of the trapezoid was larger than the small area, but smaller than the larger area. For the triangle I noticed the actual area was larger than the triangle area.
d. Find the perimeter of the tent and the perimeter of a sleeping bag.
Answer: For the trapezoid, I added all 4 sides and got 68. For the sleeping bag, I did the same and got 18.
e. How much area do you need for one sleeping bag?
f. Based on total area alone (ignore odd angles), how many people will be able to sleep in this tent? Explain.
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
e. area of sleeping bag = 6.7 x 2.3 = 15.41 ft^2
No of persons who can sleep = 228/15.41 = 14.79
14 persons
