Question 1036020: Dustin wants to create a large mural to cover part of his wall. He drew a sketch of his design to determine the amount of canvas he needs. The area of the design was 0.3 square feet. If the actual mural will have dimensions 5 times that of the design, how many square feet of canvas will Dustin need?
Answer by fractalier(6550) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The area of a shape varies as the square of the sides. Thus is you double the sides, the area goes up by four. Here the actual mural has dimensions five times as large, thus the area will be 25 times as large.
25 * .3 = 7.5 square feet
