You only need to know that you have a rectangle, and that you know that the original area is some constant, given as 288 SQUARE YARDS in your example. The perimeter will not be needed here.

If you want also to know the new perimeter,...,..., just go through a similar process using formula for perimeter. Recognize that perimeter is LINEAR, but area is SQUARE or QUADRATIC.
