Question 1012473: The height of a right regular hexagonal prism is 20 cm, and the apothem of its base is 4 times the square root of 3 cm. What is its surface area?
Answer by addingup(3677) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
4(sqrt3)= 4(1.732)= 6.928 This is the apothem, the long leg of the triangle. And 4 is the short leg and 4*2= 8 is the length of the side. The area of this 1/6 is (8*6.928)/2= 27.712 and the area of the base is
27.712*6= 166.272 is the area of the base.
You don't say if the prism has a top. If it does, we need to double the area (top+bottom):
166.272*2= 334.544
Now the sides. The height is 20 and the length of each side is 8:
8*20= 160 and we have 6 sides:
160*6= 960 Add this to the base+top:
960+334.544= use your calculator.
