Question 1009801: The breadths of two rectangles ,P and Q ,have 14cm and 8 cm.the sum of the lenghts of P and Q is 22cm, and the sum of their areas is 236 cm suared .what is the area of P?
Answer by macston(5194) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
X=length of P; 22cm-X=length of Q
.
(14cm)(X)+(8cm)(22cm-X)=236cm^2
14Xcm+176cm^2-8Xcm=236cm^2
6Xcm=60cm^2
X=10cm
.
Area of P=(14cm)(10cm)=140cm^2
.
CHECK:
Length of Q=22cm-10cm=12cm
Area of Q=(8cm)(12cm)=96cm^2
.
(Area of P)+(Area of Q)=236cm^2
(140cm^2)+(96cm^2)=236cm^2
236cm^2=236cm^2
