Major formulas for calculating the surface area of prisms


1.  Surface area  S  of a cube  with the edge measure  a  is  S = 6a%5E2.

2.  Surface area  S  of a rectangular prism  with the edge measures  u,  v  and  w  is  S = 2%2A%28uv+%2B+uw+%2B+vw%29.

3.  The lateral surface area  S  of an upright prism  is  S = P%2Ah,  where  P  is the perimeter of the prism base and  h  is the prism height.

4.  The total surface area  S  of a prism  is  S = S%5Blateral%5D+%2B+2%2AS%5Bbase%5D,  where  S%5Blateral%5D  is the lateral surface area of the prism and  S%5Bbase%5D  is the prism base area.
