Question 914247: In a survey of 40 musicians, it was found that 20 people played the piano 25 played the guitar and 7 play both instruments. Draw a Venn diagram that represents the situation.
This is what I did. I drew an overlapping Venn diagram with 20 in one circle, 20 in the other and 7 in the middle and 5 outside the circle . I do not remember how I came about with the 5 but my professor said it's wrong. If you add 20+25=45 and It said there are 40 musicians so where did that extra 5 came from?
Please help I am confused

Answer by richwmiller(17219)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Start with the 7 who play both
If 7 play both and a total of 20 play the piano then (20-7=13) play only the guitar
and 25-7=18 play only the guitar.
so we have 13+ 7+ 18=38 which mean that 2 play neither
