Question 1154143: Calculate the number of distinct subsets and the number of distinct proper subsets
{x|x is a day of the week}
Thank you in advance,
SYL

Answer by ikleyn(52781)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.

The set contains 7 elements (Mon-Fri, Sat and Sun).

Every finite set containing "n" elements, has N = subsets, including the empty set and improper set.

In your case, n= 7 and N = = 128 subsets, including the empty set and improper set.

ANSWER.   = 128 subsets, in all;  and 128-1 = 127 proper subsets.

Dear visitor SYL !

If I remember correctly, I just solved very similar problem (TWIN problem) for you with full explanation several days ago.

Isn't it so ?

I even referred to my lesson
    - How many subsets are there in a given finite set of n elements?
in this site.

I did it with the only goal: to teach you.
