Using my calculator I know the answer is 14.67%, but using the formula r=(fv/pv)1/5 (root) -1-- I don't understand how to solve for the 1/n-1 or 1/5-1 (in this case) to find the answer.

Question 13755: Hello
I was hoping you could clear this up for me! I know that the root of x times the root of x just equals x (√x X √x = x), however, does the root of x times the square of x simplifify to something? (√x X x^2 = ???) I tried subbing in different values to see if I could see a clear pattern, however I couldn't figure it out.

we know that (√x )=x^1/2
so
(√x X x^2 = x^1/2.x^2
x^1/2.x^2 =x^1/2+2
x^1/2+2=x^5/2 answer

Question 13949: Yuck! I am having so many problems tonight! Here goes Solve by extracting roots. Round answers to two decimal places. 1.5x^2 = .7x^2 + 26.2. This is what I am doing and I keep coming up with wrong answers. I subtracted the .7 from both sides and came up with .8x^2 = 26.2. My final answer was x=32.75. I divided the .8 from both sides. However, back of the book has a completely different answer

Question 14007: Yet another question. I keep doing something wrong with this 2(5x + 3)^2 = 38. Solve by extraction
I keep coming up with answers that are not matching the back of the book. I try to distribute the two and then find the square root and work from there. I've tried 3 different ways. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Please help
