Question 198572: Could someone help me with these, I had it last year but forgot how it works:
1) Find a quadratic equation with roots (4+i)and(4-i).
2) Given the equation x^3-2x^2+x-3=0, what are the possible rational roots??
3) Find the irratinal roots of the equation; x^3-4x^2+2x+1=0 I should use the quadratic formula to solve the equation, it might sound stupid but I never really understood how to use the quadratic formula =(

Question 201007: Please help me in solving x^4-64.
This is how I believe it's supposed to be solved
x^4-64 I take the 4th root of x and get x, and the 3rd root of -64 and get -4, which can be simplified further to 2. My answer then is x-2. On the other hand I looked at factoring x^4-64 by factoring like so, (x^2+8)(x^2+8), then (x^2+8)(x+4)(x-2)but this would give me a middle term. Please help.

Question 201261: 5square root of 20 minus the square root of 45 plus 2square root 80. the 5 and the 2 are just outside their prospective square root numbers. Question 201429: I really can't figure out how the answer is 16. Can you help, please?
8+2 √5² - 3²
That is 5 squared - 3 squared.
5 squared = 25 3 squared = 9 so 25 - 9 = 16 but what is to be done with the 8 + 2 in the beginning?
