Question 31950: sqrt(x+4) = x^2-5 I squared both sides and eventually came out with x^4-10x^2-x+25. I got as far as x(x^3-10x-1) + 21 but I think I'm off base.
Thank you so very much for all your help in this madness!

Question 32153: I need to estimate, and then evaluate the expression 3(1-sqrt3)\6 the answer should be rounded to the nearest thousandth. I have sqrt of 27 is between 5 and 6, so the above expression would have to be between -.333 and -.5. Then I did the problem like this: 3-sqrt27/6 = 3-sqrt(9*3)/6 = 3-3sqrt3/6 = 3(1-sqrt3)/6 I am not sure if I can simplify this anymore or not??? Does this look right so far and if so, how do I proceed? Thank you, Steven

Question 32181: Three cousins (Bob, Chris, Phyllis) were talking about how old they were. Bob (the oldest) noticed they were all between the ages of 11 and 30. Phyllis noticed that the sum of their ages was 70. Chris (the youngest) pointed out that if they wrote down the square of each of their ages, all of the digits from 1 to 9 will appear exactly once in the digits of the three squares. How old were each person?

Question 32266: This is a discussion board question that I need to get answered and I have NO idea where to even start on this one. Here's the assignment that I'm supposed to come up w/ an answer.
While the radical symbol is widely used, converting to rational exponents has advantages. Explain an advantage of rational exponents over the radical sign. Include in your answer an example of an equation easier to solve as a rational exponent rather then a radical sign.
Any ideas on where to start at???

Question 32513: I need help!
For the equation x-SQRT x = 0, perform the following:
a) Solve for all values of x that satify the equation.
b) Graph the function y=x and y=SQRT x on the same graph (by plotting pints if neccessary). Show the points of intersection of these two graphs.

Question 32634: Im trying to solve this:
Find the hypotenuse of a right triangle with sides 5 inches and 10 inches.
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
5^2 + 10^2 =c^2
25 + 100 = 125
is this right or not because its asking for a right triangle and what i come up with doesnt make it one.!
