This is an equation to find the value of x
In this case, you move all the numbers (remembering to
change the sign as the number moves to the other side
of the equals sign.). The numbers with 'x' attached to
them stay on the left.
3x - 1 = 2
Move -1 over to the right. Change the sign.
3x = 2 + 1
Add right side.
3x = 3
Divide both sides by 3
3x/3 = 3/3
x = 1
This is the value of x for this specific equation.
3x - 1 = 2
3(1) - 1 = 2
3 - 1 = 2 This is correct.
