Write an equation for each statement
:
Fred has built a rectangular sandbox with a perimeter of 48 feet
2L + 2W = 48
simplify, divide both sides by 2
L + W = 24
and a length that is twice its width.
L = 2W
then
2W + W = 24
3W = 24
W = 8 ft is the width
and
L = 2(8)
L = 16 ft is the length

Fred wants to fill the sandbox to 75% capacity.
Find the height of the sand in ft (18" = 1.5 ft)
.75*1.5 = 1.125 ft
