4x^2+kx+6=0
the factors satisfying the constraint that one of the solutions is x = -2 are
=============================================================================
(4x+3) * (x+2) = 0
x = -2 or -3/4
============================================================================
multiplying the factors we get
4x^2 +11x +6 = 0
k = 11
============================================================================
let's now check the answer x=-2 with k=11 above
4*(-2)^2 + 11*(-2) +6 = 0
16 -22 +6 = 0
22 -22 = 0
x=-2 with k=11 checks out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
============================================================================
the key here is that the problem does not say that -2 is the ONLY solution

No answer.

If has a root of -2 with a multiplicity of 2, then the polynomial must factor to where and

So if and the root is and , then

So

must factor to . The problem is, when you multiply it out, you get .

Doesn't work. Either there is no solution, or you wrote the problem incorrectly.
