I am going to assume you mean:
SqRt(x) + 2 = SqRt(x + 12)
:
[SqRt(x)+2]^2 = [SqRt(x+12)]^2; square both sides
:
FOIL [SqRt(x)+ 2] [SqRt(x)+ 2] and you have:
:
x + 4SqRt(x) + 4 = x + 12
:
Get the radical on the left by itself:
4*SqRt(x) = x + 12 - x - 4
:
4*SqRt(x) = +8
:
Square both sides again:
16(x) = 64
x = 64/16
x = 4
:
you can check this, substitute 4 x in the original equation:
SqRt(4) + 2 = SqRt(4 + 12)
2 + 2 = SqRt(16)
