You can't, nor would you want to. The question is to find square root of a number and express the ANSWER (the square root) to the nearest thousandths place.
Let's do an example. Find sqrt(3) to the nearest thousandths place. Use your calcalator to get
sqrt(3) = 1.7320508...
Now round to the third place
sqrt(3) = 1.732
Your answer is 1.732
